Zexie, Rhizoma Alismatis Alismatis Rhizoma (Zexie) or Oriental Water Plaintain Rhizome is the dried tuber of Alisma orientale (Sam.) Juz., family Alismataceae.
Alismatis Rhizoma has diuretic and renal protective effects. The active diuresis substances are alisol B and alisol A 24-acetate. The processing method affects the diuretic effect. Unprocessed Alismatis Rhizoma, stirfried with wine and stir-fried with wheat bran (Fuchaozexie) all have diuretic effect while stirfried with brine (Yanzexie) has no diuretic effect.
